Whirling Dervishes of Light (6)
Since returning to Dubai, I have begun work on a set of images with which I wish to showcase the whirling dervishes and the beautiful architecture of light I experienced in Istanbul. On my camera roll, I have many architectural images of Istanbul capturing light. For this series I have chosen to use mainly images taken in the harem in Topkapi Palace. When working on these edits I have had the feeling that in some inexplicable way the whirling dervishes bring light and release to many, especially women, who lived in those quarters under conditions not of their own choosing. (Click to enlarge images). More about the whirling dervishes of light in my blog post: Whirling Dervishes - lessons for cyberspace. -

Domes (11)
Domes have always been a symbol of transcendence in cultures and religions throughout the world, calling us ever upwards and reminding us of the pull of Eros. In the world today, there is talk of the geodesic dome being a metaphor for interconnectedness and the unleashing of creativity and spontaneity as the collective intelligence of a group is utilized. A synonym for a pavilion is a dome, and so I find it appropriate to put up this gallery of domes I have photographed, at the same time as my blog that looks at online pavilions. Liwa Desert (11)
It is early afternoon and all is quiet. All is still quiet. The Liwa Desert gazes back at me from where I sit, and somehow, words seem superfluous when faced with the expanse of sand in front of me. Instead, it is perhaps appropriate today to allow the images in this gallery to speak for me. (click to enlarge images) -

#mobileart (97)
The following script accompanied my #mobieart project: #mobileart will contain photographs taken using my mobile phone. The photos are taken when I am out walking. These photos are shared via the web shortly after they are taken and therefore immediately become mobile. I share them initially on twitpic where you can find them by searching for those marked #mobileart. The photos might be of art in its various forms. They might also be of shapes that strike me as being in a state of movement. The project is ongoing. The fact that #mobileart contains a hash tag indicates that it is searchable and will show all the photographs I have taken in the form of a stream. This stream will flow as more photographs are added. It is my wish that these photos will capture the movement of Spirit in His/Her/Its/Our/My/Your various forms. Hopefully too, these photos will be a sharing of a consciousness on the move. The start of the project took place in Dubai, which was once a land of Bedouins – nomads in the desert, and so the theme of wandering, mobility and art is perhaps appropriate. For the Bedouins home had a different meaning to the way it is understood today in the west and in much of the east. Wherever the Bedouins were they were at a center which was always changing as they wandered through the borderless desert. Habitation was not fixed. It was temporary and always suggested the probability of immediate movement. In the ecology of the desert, life was interconnected and a sense of community was strong. Wandering was an act of connectedness. Many of these concepts are receiving renewed focus in this age of mobility and the resulting global village, and I will attempt to capture them in my photographs. (Click on any image within the gallery to find out more about it).
